soulful, gripping and memorable

A Dark Room is truly special, it could be a thesis representing the concept of “less is more.” I feel as though “game” might be an inadequate term to describe A Dark Room, I find “experience” to be more apt. So much is left up to the imagination while at the same time providing a poignantly bleak and uniquely captivating context for your imagination to blossom within. Overall, this is the best simple mobile experience ever created; no unreal engine, fancy graphics, or obvious narrative necessary. A Dark Room is a masterpiece as many before have witnessed, so if you haven’t played it yet, I envy you and the profound journey you will have within your mind sitting with this experience.

Highly recommend!!!

This game is amazing. It achieved its goal perfectly. Anyone can enjoy this game so buy it now!!

Amazing game

Great storyline. I like how they never really show what happens, but instead tell it like a story.

So Good.

It’s simple yet enticing. So enjoyable, I couldn’t put it down. It’s also pretty deep in some ways, make you question choices and wanting to go back and undo things.

Simple, Elegant Game Design

A Dark Room hooks you immediately with its mysterious and minimalist take on an action-adventure/management sim. It takes a novelistic approach to providing you with only the information you need to advance the game and narrative elements, trusting your imagination to fill in the rest, while managing to deliver a palpable experience that’ll have you chasing down answers and questioning what you’re willing to do to get them. Don’t skip A Dark Room. It’s one of the most original mobile games you’ll have the privilege of playing.

A very pleasant surprise

I had seen this game on the top 25 and had wondered why it was so popular, the game seemed very basic. Eventually I decided to give the game a try and right from the start I loved it; the story developed far more than expected and had a very deep meaning. If you are thinking of getting this game, you definitely should.

Fantastic

I never leave reviews, but this game sucked me in and I couldn’t stop thinking about the amount of character this game has. Absolutely loved it. One of the next I’ve played on IOS.

YES

AWESOMEST GAME EVER OMG SO SOOTHING YET SO CREEPY… THE LURE OF THE UNKNOWN… !!!!!!

ChatGPT brought me here

I was looking for a game that had no ads and no in-app purchases and was so happy and so entertained when I came across this game. It’s so simple but so fun

Fantastic RTS game

Great writing, balanced gameplay. Had fun exploring the map and enjoyed the story, going to try the prequel Ensign next!!!

Deceptively simple, but packs an emotional punch.

Stick with it. You won't "get it" until you've played for at least an hour. Slate put it best: "If Cormack McCarthy wrote an iPhone game, this would be it."

This is a perfect game

Minimalist RPGs are my bread and butter. This was one of the first I ever got to play. Over a decade later, it only shines brighter.

Amazing

It’s amazing it doesn’t need Wi-Fi and it’s a long and fun and it unleashes your creativity

Simple yet Engaging

A game I always come back to, it seems to change every time I do. Amazing story and simplicity make it top tier. My only regret is that I wish I could play for the first time all over again.

Love this game

Fun to play

Love the nostalgia!!

So simple and so stressful at times but definitely very entertaining!! Trying the challenge at the end now, wish me luck!!

Gg

Great game. More plot paths would be dope. Good time though.

Wonderful experience

I remember downloading this game as a young teen. Throughout the years since then I found myself randomly thinking of playing. I’ve played several times before and have beat this game twice. Both times I’ve played through have been amazing. The emotions I feel for characters I can’t even see blows my mind. This game is so different than anything else I’ve played yet it strikes some cord in my body that gets me through every play through. I’m very excited to play the next one for the first time!

a dark room: classic?

this is my long time favorite games and a game update for the 10th aniversary is welcome. also im sure there are fans like myself who also liked the original ios style - with the basic font no audio etc. could there be a way to play that version in addition to the updated. like how modern games have a "classic" and "updated" available in settings. i think thats what some of the sprasely low rated reviews are saying - they enjoy the game but also miss the previous version.

An absolutely incredible creation

This game was a twisting maze of a game. I didn’t know what to expect going into this game, but playing it was truly a wonderful and fun time.

Wow

Emotional rollercoaster. Was not expecting that. Very introspective and a little confusing but that's a perk to be honest.

A Must play for real gamers

Amazing game

Wow

This is a really nicely done game. It’s well paced, not overly difficult or easy. It has a very nice mix of strategy/resource building together with an engaging world/story line. It doesn’t take too long to complete ( more than an hour but less than 10 ) so it’s just a really nice diversion to escape a little bit.

Addictive

Not much to say other than a very simple HTML only game. Only complaint is not being able to advance once all huts built

breathtaking.

so incredibly simple and yet, so remarkably refreshing. it’s dower, it’s haunting, it’s text adventure like i’ve never seen. i’ve come back to this game every few years since release and it’s sound design, story, and creative gameplay always draws me back in!

Love this game! Grabs you

If you’re tired of flashy, dopamine-addiction-fueling, cookie-cutter, thoughtless push button games they’ve been churning out, this game is for you. It grabs you and rewards you for curiosity and takes you to the stars and gives you a ride for your life. I downloaded it years ago and I’m still playing it. It has a beautifully, crafted simplicity, challenges you on multiple mechanics I’ve never encounters before. You’ll never see ending coming. Or beginning. Or the middle. Great if you got plane rides or long waits. Saves your progress and tells you a great story.

good

nice game, very relaxing, very calm

Masterpiece

It’s like if a poetry book was made into a survival indie game

So many memories..

I bought this game ages ago. The title drew me in, even if I did not know how it played. Best purchase ever. I was hooked, I wanted to continue whenever I was able to. And I just learned there is a pre-sequel, after all this time? Best day ever!

Love this game

Great story. Great presentation.

Simple and fun

Worth the purchase

Where is the whirring Fabricator?

which is a nice challenge in web edition!

Well written and fun game! Unexpected!!

A Dark Room is a short but very fun and interesting experience that invites you to take your time and pay attention to details in order to stitch together the story.

Simple, captivating, intriguing

I wish there were more campaign games like this, a story with a beginning and an end instead of endless competitive play, though, yes, it can be played more than once. This was very satisfying to play.

Colony Sim With Elusive Story

Good, succinct game experience. Not mind-blowing, necessarily, but rewarding and satisfying in several ways, and the mystery of the narrative that leaves some questions unanswered = all good.

Come for the resource hoarding, stay for the surprise plot pivot!

It starts out as a simple resource management, lemonade stand type game but after you find something odd the story begins to change! Way deeper than any ASCII game I’ve played before

Review

Could play this game over and over again have been playing since its release

Brain busting and fun

I got this game in like 2016? Maybe before, but I have kept it in my phone since and will randomly play it from time to time. Each time I play I forget how fun the story is and the meaning behind it. Classic game for me

Ones of the most gripping experiences on iPad

I was blown away by this game. Worth the 2 dollars easy.

10/10

Amazing play through. Never played a game that had so much depth being only text based. Loved it

Good game

I am not a English native speaker. But this game is too good to give up. I played it for 500 mins with my poor English. The language is poetic. And I like the subtle romantic line. Good game to play.

A game to revisit every year

This game is so enthralling and I’ve played through 3 times trying various challenges like not building huts or only using one attack skill.

Never gets old

I started playing this game when I was eighteen years old. I’m now twenty seven and I still play it. It never gets boring or old for me. When people ask me what my favorite game is, I tell them to this day that it is A Dark Room.

An amazing game

I’ve played through this game at least a dozen times, probably more. Its hard to put into words what this game means to me. I love it’s minimal interface and the richness of the gameplay. It is well thought out and intuitive in how it unrolls features as the user continues on their journey. Playing with huts or without is equally fun and entertaining. This game is a benchmark and a standard with which most other games pale in comparison. Good games entertain once. Great games continue to entertain after the first play through. This is a great game.

Awsome job

Very well made, great sound effects and plot

Awesome game

didnt expect to be so addictive, very nice game

Masterpiece

Proof that gameplay and storytelling is more than enough for a great experience. Brilliant!

Great Game!

Always had me coming back to play over and over again!

Great small indie game with great story telling

Loved the game, totally worth buying, surprised how good it was
